The Throwing Emulator is available on the Combo Emulator only. Using the Combo Emulator, the primary focus is on the throwing motion from launch position to release. The resistance in the beginning of this exercise is four times greater that it is at the release position. This fores you to use you core muscles first to get this going. When your hand and ball are returning to the launch position, you must take some tme to allow you hand and arm to go backward in a specific sequence. The return sequence is the opposite of the throwing sequence. This return motion is designed to strengthen the front rotator cuff muscles and connective tissue.
This execise will strengthen the tricep head muscle located on top of the lateral collateral ligament which is at the elbow joint. When this ligament is torn, you will need Tommy John sugery. By strengthening this muscle and the ligament, you are pre-habilitating both of these components protecting the arm from needing Tommy John sugery.
WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM THIS WORKOUT
If you are at least 16 years old and you are performing 4 sets of 15 reps 5 days a week for three months, you should be getting at least 4-6 additional mph on your throwing speed assuming that are already throwing 85 mph. This is controlled speed and it does not require you to be throwing as hard as you can. You will also be able to throw 9 innings without losing any velocity.
If you currently have all the speed you want, this workout will enable you to maintain that speed but with less effort. This will give you better control.
